About
This is a well-funded frontier AI company ($200m+ raised) building agentic systems that automate complex, multi-step workflows across enterprise environments. They blend cutting-edge research (proprietary model and computer-use agent) with a forward-deployed implementation. Investors include Accel, AWS, and several prominent technology leaders.
The VP Engineering joins the executive team at a pivotal moment: the technology is proven, early enterprise traction is real, and the next phase is building a robust, global AI platform business. The role reports directly to the CEO and works directly with the Head of Research.
The hard part is not building great things in isolation. It's making bespoke, forward-deployed systems repeatable, defensible, and scalable — without killing what makes them work.
What you'll do
- Define and execute the technical platform strategy across agents, orchestration, model integration, and infrastructure
- Scale the engineering organisation from startup structure to high-output, multi-layered teams
- Translate frontier AI capabilities into enterprise-ready, repeatable products
- Make critical build-vs-buy decisions across the stack, with a clear view on where technical moats are built
- Act as a key technical counterpart to the CEO in board, investor, and fundraising contexts
- Operate across Research, Product, and Go-to-Market to align engineering execution with commercial outcomes
- Raise the engineering bar: processes, quality standards, and delivery velocity at scale
What you'll need
- Experience as CTO or VP Engineering in a high-growth, venture-backed environment
- Proven ability to scale engineering teams and systems through rapid growth phases
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, AI/ML infrastructure, or developer platforms
- Strong product instinct and ability to shape platform strategy in a fast-moving technical landscape
- Comfortable engaging with frontier research while maintaining a clear focus on production quality
- Experience communicating complex technical topics to investors, boards, and senior stakeholders
- Comfort with ambiguity and fast-moving, loosely-specified problem spaces
