This AI-native cybersecurity startup is building agents that investigate, prioritise and remediate vulnerabilities across code and cloud. The engineering challenge is making those agents reliable, secure and effective across complex enterprise environments.
The company has raised over $30m and grown to around 40 people. You’ll work closely with the founder-CTO as the engineering organisation scales from around 20 to more than 50 people, with ownership across backend, infrastructure and data teams.
There is no management layer beneath you. You’ll lead experienced technical leads and senior ICs directly, making this a genuine player-coach role rather than a management-only position.
What you'll do
- Lead a growing group of engineering teams, setting clear ownership and priorities
- Stay close to architecture, code reviews and technical design across your teams
- Develop technical leads and senior engineers through coaching and direct feedback
- Keep cross-team coordination lightweight, decisive and focused on delivery
- Lead technical hiring, from defining the bar to closing exceptional candidates
- Work with the CTO to design team structures as the organisation scales
- Maintain high engineering standards without letting process replace judgement
What you'll need
- Experience leading a high-calibre team of 10+ engineers, including senior technical ICs
- A track record of scaling engineering teams, systems and operating practices through rapid growth
- Experience helping a seed or Series A company develop into a more structured scale-up
- Deep knowledge of distributed backend systems, platform engineering or infrastructure
- The ability and interest to remain hands-on through architecture, code reviews and technical trade-offs
- Evidence that you can introduce high standards while preserving startup speed and autonomy
- Experience building or operating production LLM or agentic systems
